CAAS members at ECAS7

CAAS members actively participated in the seventh European conference in African studies ECAS7 which took place in Basel between 29 June and 1 July.

The main theme was Urban Africa - Urban Africans: New encounters of the rural and the urban this year. More than 1500 participants took part in over a thousand panels during the three busy days of the conference which also included roundtables, book launches, film screenings, specialized research group meetings and much more.

Hana Horáková and Stephanie Rudwick were convenors of the panel "Contemporary politics of informality: encounters between the "formal" and "informal" African city", in which Kateřina Mildnerová and Vít Zdrálek of the CAAS took part among other delegates from Germany, France and Switzerland.

The double panel "Traditional Chiefs and Democratic Political Culture for Africa" convened by Petr Skalník and Georg Klute became a platform for Africanists from Germany, France and the UK.
